My work is in this book, alongside an impressive roster of designers and illustrators. You can open it to any page and see something beautiful staring back at you.

it all means something.

I found a blank illustration board hiding in the back of my closet today so I made use of him. It's 15" x 20".

Quelqu'un m'a dit.

My favorite picture of my mom and dad, days after they eloped.

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

I was recently asked to design some t-shirts for Farofa Nation, a design and t-shirt company dedicated to helping the poor and unfortunate kids of Brasil. These two designs will be available for sale soon.

he was a music man.

I've been having this song in my head for the last few weeks now. I just watched it on youtube and had this overwhelming feeling of nostalgia come over me. Growing up in Brasil, Sundays were my dad's only day off of work. He used to put this video on and play it over and over. And then he would say that my sister was Cyndi Lauper and I was Tina Turner. But I wanted to be Cyndi Lauper.

Spent the entire day redoing my website and am very pleased to say that I am finally done.

I was browsing the net and this side banner made me smile.

art & copy

Looking forward to seeing this. Watch the trailer here.

Sunday, August 16, 2009

believe you me.

I bought a bread book and have been going nuts baking. I swear those pictures were taken by me in my own kitchen and yes, I take pictures of my food.

better late than never.

Two years later and I finally realize who created the signage for Mollusk Surf Shop - which is a great store that caught my attention while I was driving through San Francisco and I just had to stop and look inside. Jeff Canham is an expert in art, design and of course, sign painting.

today's just another day except that it's not.

My friend must have sent me this video more than a year ago and I can't even explain what it is that I like about it but it's stayed with me all this time.

The Present

The last time I was on the left coast, I stopped by a skate shop and picked up a copy of Thomas Campbell's newest film "The Present." I watched the dvd on the plane ride home. The visuals are beautiful. You can watch the trailer here.

I have always wanted to attend the World Beard and Moustache Championship in Anchorage. These posters by Jason Nitti and Neel Williams reaffirm my interest to do so.

I'm in the process of making a new book - a compilation of the work I've done in the last year. It's kind of a continuation of this although this time it's going to be much more personal. I'm including everything that has made me feel inspired - candid photographs, writings, thoughts on paper, etc. I have yet to come up with a title (I think that's the hard part) but the above is one of the many spreads I have done so far.

it's the truth.

It's been a while since I visited Julia Pott's blog. Looking through her work again tonight affected me. And isn't that the point? I love her drawings - every single one of them.

silkscreen test 1.

I cleared the dust off my silkscreening supplies today. I grabbed an old screen I never washed off, found the letter that had partly inspired the drawing on it and pulled the ink on that. It was fitting and was reminded why it's important to feel passionate about things. I also documented the steps:

don't pull my strings.

I made this today. It's 10"x13".

Sunday, May 10, 2009

I sat across the table from my 13 year old nephew.
I said, "Draw me. You have ten minutes."
He started with an orange marker that eventually ran out of ink. Continued with a purple one. No erasing. Ten minutes later, he handed me this.

song of the day.

This man and Yusuf Islam always put me in a good mood.

Monday, April 13, 2009

layouts and galleries.

I love to be productive and that's pretty much the only way I can sum up this weekend - with a little fun added in, just for good measure.

This is from my west coast clouds series.

my drunkard.

New drawing, new project.

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

oh boy.

I have a six year old nephew who does nothing but draw. During dinner (he drew as he ate) I asked him to take a break from drawing his new favorite animal, whales (I now know all about narwhal whales, sperm whales, bowhead whales, etc) and draw a portrait of me instead. I compared it with my own self doodle and came to the realization that although his interpretation of me is much less forgiving, this little masterpiece is going in a frame.

I loved this song before. I will love this song forever.

Mike Chavez. Great colors, great work. I'd hang these all over everything.

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Today while driving to work and listening to some good music, I came up with this visual and couldn't get it out of my head until I made it.

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

mamãe e papai.

I guess I always knew you could make an animated gif in photoshop but had never tried. I think an experimentation in animated gifs is coming soon.

What I wouldn't do for one of these laser cut boards from Refill 7...

Tuesday, January 20, 2009

work related.

Work has been keeping me extra busy these days but I will make an effort to update more often in the coming weeks. Side note: I am happy to have a new president.

Wednesday, January 14, 2009

thought of the day.

pen and paper.

I've been contributing to Doodlers Anonymous for a few months now? I decided to grab some of the sketchbooks I have scattered on top of my table tonight and scan in a few random drawings of my own. Some are really old, some are new, but mostly never shared.

Thursday, January 8, 2009

I found these old polaroids. My grandparents took them during their first visit to Foz in 1982.

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

helvetica everywhere.

I just watched a documentary on PBS called "Helvetica," which explores the history of the typeface. In it they interview some prominent names to the design world. Watch the preview here. It's worth watching.

Saturday, January 3, 2009

cabin fever.

I've been doing a lot of quick illustrations lately. I was reminiscing about Brasil and what it was like to grow up there during this one.
